A Simple Way to Start Your Day

Some people like to start their day off with a cup of coffee. Other people would rather opt for a sit-down breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast or yogurt with fruit and nuts. What about those people who are looking for a breakfast option somewhere in the middle? Maybe you want something with lots of protein, but don’t necessarily want eggs, meat or Greek yogurt. Well, Naked Oats may be a good option for you. It’s a simple way to start your day and, better yet, you can actually do all the prep work the night before…which I highly recommend.

Naked Oats product review

For those of you unfamiliar with Naked Oats, it is one of the products created and sold by Naked Nutrition. You might remember the brand, as I did a product review of their Naked Shake and Naked Energy protein powders a few years back.

As I stated in that review, one of the benefits of choosing Naked Nutrition products is you can fuel your day without having to worry about your meal being filled with artificial colors, sweeteners and flavors. This company’s primary focus is on using natural and premium-sourced ingredients, so as to shorten the steps between their farms and you.

Please note, in the interest of transparency, Naked Nutrition did provide us with the Naked Oats, in two different flavors, for the purpose of this product review. However, as always, the statements we make and the viewpoints we provide are solely our own.

Benefits of Naked OATS

One of the things I like about Naked Oats is it is packed with protein. The Green Apple Cinnamon Protein Oats I tried contains 20g of protein, 7g of fiber and 2 scoops (the recommended serving size) is only 260 calories. The Cinnamon Roll Protein Oats contains 20g of protein, 6g of fiber and 240 calories per serving size. Both are made using gluten-free rolled oats and the protein is a premium whey.

There are no artificial sweeteners used in these products. The sweetness comes from fermented cane sugar (REB-M). REB-M is a zero-calorie, natural sweetener bioidentical to the molecule found in stevia leaves. The apple cinnamon oats get some additional sweetness from the diced, cinnamon apple.

Another benefit is the oats can be prepared in a variety of ways. If you’d prefer to drink the protein oats as a shake, you can add water, milk or a plant-based milk alternative. Those who would prefer eating their oats should use either milk or a milk-substitute. Then you can, ideally, let your oats sit in the fridge overnight. Doing this will give you a smoother texture, kind of similar to oatmeal. Either way, Naked Oats makes for a quick and simple, yet protein filled, meal.

Simple-to-follow instructions can be found on the outside label of each container. Prep takes about 30 seconds, then you place your oats in the fridge to soak. If you’re short on time, you can always shake/mix your oats with water or milk and drink right away. Personally, I prefer the overnight oats option. It gives the oats a chance to really soak in the liquid.

Naked OATS Product Review

Packaging:

Like the other Naked Nutrition products, the packaging for Naked Oats is very simple. Each is a see-through container with an outer label detailing all of the nutritional facts, directions and other information. In alignment with the company’s motto, “Nutrition with nothing to hide.”, you can easily see the protein oats and scoop inside the container. In addition, each container is made of PET plastic, is BPA-free and is 100% recyclable.

Product:

Both the green apple cinnamon protein oats and cinnamon roll protein oats tasted good. I prepared each as a shake and as overnight oats. For me, the overnight oats was a better option as the oats had a chance to absorb the milk. After I stirred the oats again in the morning, it made for a smoother consistency. In all honesty, I probably could have consumed the overnight oats as a smoothie. So, if you’re looking for a heartier oatmeal, maybe try a little less liquid.

Quality:

As the products are made using natural ingredients, no artificial colors, sweeteners or flavors, you know you’re getting a higher-quality product than many other options out there. Also, since the products contain a decent amount of protein and fiber, it’s good for your muscle and digestive health.

Taste/Texture:

Although both oat products had a decent taste, and were naturally sweetened, I still found them a little too sweet for my taste. I liked the cinnamon in both, but if there were a way to tamper down the sweetness, I’d be all for it.

As I mentioned earlier, the texture and consistency are good, especially if you allow the oats to soak in your liquid of choice as recommended. Adding a little less liquid would make for a thicker morning oat, but as-is makes for a smooth shake and/or overnight oat meal.

Cost:

The net weight of the containers is between 1.7-1.9 lbs. The cost is $23.99 per container, regardless of the flavor you want to get. This breaks down to about $2.00 per serving, which isn’t too bad for the cost of a healthy, morning meal.

In addition to the flavors I tried, Naked Oats also comes in Strawberry Cream, Double Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate PB Banana and Blueberry Cobbler.

Overall rating:

Overall, I’d give this product a good rating. The fact the products are made with natural ingredients is a big plus in my book. A decent amount of protein and fiber is extremely beneficial, as well. I, personally, would prefer oats that didn’t taste quite so sweet, but this won’t be true for everyone. The oats do have a good flavor and I definitely got “green apple cinnamon” and “cinnamon roll” as the flavors of the ones I tried. Plus, being able to prep your breakfast the night before makes it very simple to start your day off right.
