Greenpeace entities petition North Dakota Supreme Court for venue change in Energy Transfer SLAPP trial

Mandan, North Dakota — Greenpeace International and Greenpeace entities in the US filed a petition to the North Dakota Supreme Court for a change of venue as they defend against the SLAPP case brought by Energy Transfer in Morton County. Following the seating of a jury on Tuesday, District Court Judge Gion immediately denied a renewed request for a venue change from the Greenpeace entities. The petition to the State Supreme Court for venue change follows three prior denied motions to the Morton County court for change of venue.

“The Greenpeace defendants have said from the start of this case that it should be heard away from where the events happened. After three motions for a venue change were refused, we now feel compelled to ask the Supreme Court of North Dakota to relieve the local community from the burden of this case and ensure the fairness of the trial cannot be questioned,” said Daniel Simons, Senior Legal Counsel, Greenpeace International.
