Every day,
0:01
NOAA touches the lives of all Americans,
0:04
supporting public safety
0:06
and sustainable commerce,
0:08
providing for life saving weather prediction, safe navigation,
0:12
a viable seafood industry, and disaster mitigation and response.
0:17
The incredible professionals at NOAA are responsible
0:20
for these services and more, along with environmental stewardship
0:24
and world class science that shapes so many aspects of our lives.
0:29
Over the last several years, I’ve witnessed this team do exceptional,
0:33
even previously unimaginable things in the face of unique challenges.
0:39
Team NOAA also embraced extraordinary opportunities,
0:43
like the unprecedented six billion dollars in new investments
0:47
that we’re using to build a Climate-Ready Nation.
0:51
Thanks to this funding, we’ve restored thousands of acres of habitat and waterways,
0:56
helped people across the country make climate-smart investments
0:59
in their communities and coasts
1:01
and improved the climate data and services
1:04
that we provide to decision makers, families, communities, and businesses.
1:10
We’ve designated more national marine sanctuaries
1:13
than any other four-year period in our history,
1:16
thus protecting the marine environment and stimulating local economies.
1:20
We’ve also helped permit the most offshore wind
1:24
renewable energy projects in history.
1:27
Our ability to predict severe weather has taken a significant step forward,
1:31
with investments in high performance computing power and new satellites.
1:36
Our ability to gather environmental intelligence,
1:38
so vital for decision makers, will continue to grow as we add
1:43
to our fleet new state-of-the-art ships that we’re building from the keel up,
1:48
aircraft acquired new from the manufacturer,
1:51
and new pier facilities in South Carolina, Rhode Island, and Alaska.
1:56
And as always, our dedicated workforce
1:59
is central to executing these advancements.
2:02
We’ve provided unparalleled support to tribal nations and underserved communities
2:07
to bolster resilience in the face of climate change.
2:10
We’ve provided tools to community leaders
2:12
facing sea level rise and other challenges like excessive heat.
2:17
And we’ve recommitted ourselves to equity
2:20
and making our own NOAA workforce reflective of the nation we serve.
2:24
As the Biden-Harris administration comes to a close,
2:27
I am proud to say our communities are more prepared for climate change,
2:32
our observation and prediction tools are more powerful,
2:36
and our core values of innovation, integrity, and inclusion
2:40
are central to our mission of science, service, and stewardship.
