Tata Sons and the New York Academy of Sciences have invited scientists to join their third cohort of the Tata Transformation Prize 2025. This prize drives innovation in scientific disciplines of prime importance to India that address critical national challenges in three categories—Food Security, Sustainability, and Healthcare.
Three scientists researching on innovative solutions to social issues such as food security, sustainability, and healthcare will be awarded prizes worth INR 2 crores each year. Applications are invited since 2 June 2025 and the winners will be honoured at a ceremony in India in December.
Eligibility criteria for Tata Transformation Prize:
- Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and must hold a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher, Faculty, or Researcher/Scientist, with at least 50% full-time effort devoted to research, at an eligible institution in India
- They must be a resident in India or a person of Indian origin residing in India
- They should have prior pproval from their institution, in the form of an Eligibility Verification Form.
Proposed innovations will be evaluated based on these criteria:
- Quality: Is proposed innovation coherent, credible, and supported by a scientifically rigorous design and preliminary data?
- Vision: Will the proposed innovation 1) challenge existing paradigms and/or pursue an original approach, and 2) generate measurable, lasting, and wide-scale changes that address national needs?
- Feasibility: Does the applicant 1) offer a realistic approach and implementation plan to achieve tangible results and 2) is capable of executing the proposed plan, and 3) the extent to which the proposed innovation is scalable in India?
Last year, three scientists were selected from 169 entries from 18 Indian states by an international jury of leading experts. The jury included distinguished scientists, technologists, and engineers from a diverse array of industries and academic institutions.
